How to Paint Bathroom and Kitchen Tiles Like a Pro

Image
Q: Hi Dr Dulux, we’ve just moved into a new home, and the bathroom is really outdated – the tiles are a greenish avocado color! We can’t renovate it for at least six months while we save up. Can you paint tiles instead? A: Absolutely! Many of us end up with old or ugly tiles in a bathroom or kitchen at some point. But don’t worry – you don’t need to live with them forever. Instead of removing or replacing them, you can simply paint over them! Dulux paint for tiles is waterproof and doesn’t need a separate primer, which makes the job a lot quicker and easier. Plus, it comes in different colors, so you can say goodbye to those avocado tiles! Follow these 3 simple steps for painting your tiles: 1. Clean the tiles. Scrub all the dirt and grease off the tiles using a scourer, detergent and hot water, rinse them off in clear water and allow to dry thoroughly. 2. Treat the tiles. If there is mold or limescale, prior to painting, treat it with a fungicidal wash or limescale remover. 3. Pain...

Dr Dulux: Understanding Different Paint Finishes

Image
Dr Dulux is here to help clear up the confusion. Q: Hi Dr Dulux, I’m redecorating and I'm confused by all the different paint finishes . I know what Matt and Gloss are, but what about Satin , Eggshell , Silk , and Sheen ? Which one should I use? Thanks, Maggie from Cheshire. A: Choosing the right paint finish can really change how your walls look, so it’s important to pick the best one for your space. Here’s a simple guide to help you: Matt paint is smooth and velvety. It’s great for hiding wall imperfections and gives a soft look. Flat Matt is even more velvety and doesn’t reflect light, making colours look the same in different lighting. It's great for deep shades and hiding flaws. Satin and Silk are "mid-sheen" finishes, meaning they have a slight shine. Silk is mainly used on walls, while Satin is often used for woodwork. Both are easy to clean, but Silk may show imperfections on the walls. Satin on wood helps hide flaws and gives a softer appeara...
