Mastering the Palette: A Guide to Paint Finishes

Have you chosen your colours, but need help selecting the appropriate paint? To assist you in selecting the ideal finish for your project, use our brief advice.

Matt and Flat Emulsion of Matt

Matt and flat matt emulsion's velvety feel works well on interior walls. The smooth consistency of matt emulsion is excellent for hiding wall defects, while flat matt provides a slightly powdery finish that is suitable for a modern aesthetic.

Because emulsion keeps colours stable even in changing lighting conditions, richer paint colours, such as rich Served or deep sea blue, are especially useful for this type of paint.

Satin and Silk

Paler colours look great with these finishes since they reflect light and have a slightly polished appearance. Silk is typically used for woodwork, and satin for walls.

Silk wall treatments are incredibly practical because they are easy to wash down, however imperfections in your walls may show through more. Woodwork with a satin finish appears to have softer colour and can conceal flaws better.

Eggshell is the ideal option for kitchen and bathroom walls as well as woodwork since it has a finish comparable to soft sheen but also has the added advantage of being water-resistant.

This glossy, durable finish, which reflects a lot of light and is often offered in two sheens (mid and high), is ideal for woodwork such as doorframes, window frames, and skirting.

When applying gloss paint, a smooth and perfect surface is essential because any imperfections will be highlighted. A gloss finish is a practical and attractive alternative to matt-painted walls since it is simple to maintain!

Get creative with different finishes

Try painting a prominent wall in stripes using a combination of matt and silk finish paints for an eye-catching effect. You can also use the same colour in different finishes for a subtle impact.
